Week 17

When I started this class, I had the knowledge of social media just as a social media user. Now I feel like I know behind the scene knowledge since I learned what it is like to run social media for a business and as a business owner.  It was a great experience to create a business and see how all the profiles work. I think my view on social media in general though didn't change much throughout the semester. I have a better understanding on how to set up a business page and to develop the pages for a business. I think I learned a lot from creating a Facebook page. I have always used facebook just for personal use with my own Facebook page. When I created a business Facebook page, it took a lot more time to set everything up and make the page exactly how I wanted it.  It was nice to be able to design it how I wanted however the page requires a lot of information, especially for a business that doesn't even exist.  It was interesting to see all the options that are available for

Week 16 Post 2

I commented on Jason Bush's, Matthew Dangyou's, Mary's Goulet's, Peyton Jansma's, and Aime Salomon's blogs.

Week 16 Post 1

Throughout this course, I have really enjoyed maintaining an Instagram and Facebook business account. Both profiles made me learn the importance of when it is a good time to post, what hashtags should be used, and what viewers are most interested in. It was a great learning experience. I think it was the best way to learn about how to use social media for a business. Reading the lectures also helped as well however having to be hands on with social media changes the game and really makes you active with it. I honestly did not pay much attention to the Twitter account that I created for my business. I felt that Twitter for an interior design business wasn't the hot spot since most people are looking for pictures and Instagram is the go to for a feed that'll provide just that. For the future, I would continue to use Facebook and Instagram for my business. I think they are two great sources to spread news, promotion, and collect new clients. Facebook was a bug success for me durin

Week 15 Post 2

After reviewing my insights on Facebook for the week, the charts showed me I had less viewers visiting my page this week. On May 9th, I had a peak of 6 people visiting my page but then it went down the next day. With page likes though, I started with 78 on May 1st and I now have 90 likes as of today. On May 2nd and 9th, I had a total of 60 and 64 organic posts reach. I think I would have better luck getting more likes and more engagement on my page if I planned the timing of the postings. First thing in the morning or in the evening around 8pm are typically the best times to post. Everyone is checking social media at these times so I think for future posts and engagements, I need to remember what times are best.

Week 15 Post 1

After reviewing the analytics from Google, I think proactive insights, data access, and behavior reports work well for my page. Proactive a nalytics will automatically surface insights from your data on key changes and new trends. Data a ccess allows for any user to use their your data anywhere. Google provides a mobile app , which gives email alerts, an external reporting API,  and integrations to multiple Google products. Lastly, behavior reports would be great for my business use. The behavior flow report   visualizes the path users used from one page to the next. It'll discover what content keeps users engaged with your site or identify potential content problems. Site search  will let you see which of your users used your site’s search function and what search terms they entered. Site speed  allows for you to see how quickly users are able to see and interact with your feed.

Week 14

Image
These are the three Facebook ads that I would create for promotion purposes. The first is promoting a post, which I believe is effective because it will advise people on who the designer is. Once they see the post of me and read the caption, they will be more interested to read more either about me or the business which will lead them to my page. The second ad is promoting the website. I would promote through targeting audience in the Rancho area in-between a certain age because my business is located out of Rancho Santa Fe. I also did an age group since those ages typically own homes and often look for designer help for remodels or different ideas. Lastly I promoted my page via Facebook again with the audience being people in the local area. I think this is effective because it will be viewed on Facebook and advertised to anyone in the surrounding area. Not only people in Del Mar or Encinitas will get to know about my business but so will people in Carlsbad or Oceanside. This will

Week 13 Post 1

Five businesses similar to mine are Design 4 Corners, West Elm, Luxe Interior + Design Magazine, Mary McDonald, and Savvy Interiors. In my opinion, their advertising is effective. They are on top of time for posting and advertise in a way that is eye catching. All use Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook which all include pictures. Since all these businesses are related to interior design, the pictures are what is most attractive in the advertising. For me, the pictures on Instagram make me scroll through the whole profile to see their works. The captions are too lengthy but provide sufficient information which is nice because sometimes having a long caption makes me less interested in viewing a post or page.  I think advertising on social media is more effective because nowadays people use their phones for everything and use social media. With advertising on social media, companies have more of a chance to reach an audience than in a newspaper. This isn't the case for everyone since

Week 12 Post 1

I believe Google Business and Yelp are two great tools that could really help my business. With Yelp, I could create a profile that will allow people to read about my services and work performance. I think it is a great way to allow clients I have worked with to leave reviews so upcoming clients can know about my business. On Google Business, I would create a website profile to when people search me they can be provided with all information needed. I think it's a great way for searchers to view my work as well. It would be very similar to the Facebook Page that I created but if they don't want to view on social media, Google Business would allow for clients and new viewers to see what my business has to offer. Both would work with the strategies I am using now because I would keep the pages updated and accurate.

Week 12 Post 2

With researching, Yelp could help my business because clients could review my design work for future clients to see. It would also let people know about the performance of my company and design work. I often look at Yelp reviews when I am personally searching for a new company to use so I know Yelp makes an impact. Linked In could also make an impact for my business because there are interior design groups. Many professionals go to Linked In to find employees and businesses. It's a great place for clients who feel that maybe Linked In provides more real reviews versus Yelp. I would use both Yelp and Linked In because future clients will want to read reviews from any source possible before making a decision.

Week 11 Post 2

I commented on Michelle Jordan's, Susan Sullivan's, and Kendra Meeder's blog. All were very interesting to read and I enjoyed seeing their ideas for their newsletters.

Week 11 Post 1

For my interior design business, I think a monthly newsletter would be best for my customers. It would allow them to see pictures of different designs done, read about our projects, and learn about team updates. Monthly would work greatly to also give different tips on designing, renovating, planning a reno, and how to choose what style would be best for a room or home. The newsletter would also give let readers new design trends. I would also include houses that are on the market with the realtors that my business is partnered with and homes that I have worked on. I believe viewers would enjoy seeing all this in a newsletter because it will provide them everything that is involved in interior design. They will know step by step how to go from planning to design a home to adding the final touches to the home. My customers will also enjoy the newsletter because they will be able to stay connected to my business and see what's happening monthly in the business. It's a good way to

Week 10 Post 2

The categories that I would use on my blog to organize it better would be categories of personal and business related. I would have a section for personal blogs where my target audience could have the opportunity to get to know me more, see what my interests are, and read about my preferences on different topics. I would do a business related category as well where I blog only about my business and what it has to offer. This would keep my target audience up to date with projects and different works being done. I would also do different blogs on how they can design rooms and improve their designing skills with tricks that I know. This category would also keep the blog professional so that my target audience takes my blog seriously. I think these would help my blog grow since I offer both categories to my target audience. People love relating to others and feeling a connection which is exactly what my personal category would do. The business category would allow my target audience to see

Week 10 Post 1

After reading both readings and lectures, adding personal touches really depends on the business or what the blog is addressing. If you're the face of your brand then adding personal touches would allow readers to get to know you more and make them want to read your blogs more to know your opinions on different topics and products. You also gain trust with your audience when emotions are put into blogs. I believe that if someone is discussing their business and what it has to offer then the blogger should be straight forward with facts. If the business is a clothing store and the blogger is discussing what it has to offer then adding emotions is fine since it'll give readers a sense of what to expect from the clothing, sizings, and material.

Week 9 Twitter

The search word I used was interior and design to find some of my connections. The top pages came up, such as Luxe Magazine and Mary McDonald. I didn't have to play around too much since I knew who I wanted to follow and since the pages showed up with the search words that I used. I created a list named Inspiration because there are so many great profiles that post pictures of interior designs and I want to add those profiles to my list for in the future I want ideas, I can review that list. I also made a designer list because I want to have quick access to my favorite designers. I thought this was smart so that I could quickly access either pictures to help me with projects or designers where I can review there look and see what they have to say about their life/work. I think creating a list is helpful with staying organized because it allows users to categorize their interests and its available in one spot that is easy to find. I think in the morning and evening is when my c

Week 8 Post 2

I'm late on this post due to my brain being on Spring Break mode and forgetting about this blog, however; here is my post:  Visual media works best, I believe, for the type of business I created. Interior Design is all based on looks and in order to get clients, a designer's work must be good. Instagram allows for followers and those searching for a good interior designer to see the work of many designers. Instagram gives the option of live videos, highlights, and posts to give their viewers multiple options to view their designs and latest projects.  One business that is local in Encinitas called Design 4 Corners and their Instagram is called sistersof4corners. They have 14k followers and post daily. They use Facebook as well and post the same. Their last post was 16 hours ago. Their likes compared to their followers don't match up because they average between 100 to 300 likes per post and they don't receive a lot of comments on their posts. They post their inspira

Week 8 Post 1

I believe Instagram would work best for my service because it would allow me to display pictures of my work. There's one billion active users on Instagram and many follow their favorite businesses. I think that Instagram would allow me to reach many users and other Instagram pages, especially with the hashtag feature. Since my business is interior design, the visuals of my work is very important which would also allow Pinterest and Snapchat to work best. I could provide videos on my story on Snapchat for friends and subscribers to view what was accomplished that day of work. Pinterest would allow me to create boards of the different projects I do and give viewers a chance to see what style I worked with, what material, and how the final results looked. I think Instagram would be the absolute best to display my business's activity since there are so many users and Instagram is become such a popular app for everyone to be using.

Week 7: Project Activity

Image
Above is a screenshot of my upcoming activity. I chose to do an introductory post to thank the users who have liked my page and to let them know what to expect. My second post includes an image to allow people to see what they can expect in future posts. I think this will really engage people who are following me to stay interested in visiting my page since it is an open project. Lastly, I did a Check-In post to depict what a day can look like for an interior designer since it's not always in the office or at a client's home. I included a question in hope to engage answers and feedback.

Week 7

The businesses I chose to like are Architecture & Design, Interior Design Magazine, Luxe, Restoration Hardware, HGTV, Joanna Gaines, and Pacific Sotheby's International Realty. I chose these businesses because they all fall in the same category of my business and play a big part of it. Architecture & Design, Interior Design Magazine, and Luxe are three pages that I've always personally been interested in. I chose the three because they are inspirational with their feature works in the magazines. They also will have content that goes along well with my business plan. I liked Restoration Hardware because they provide great tools/decor so it'll have content that my followers will be interested in when I share their posts. I chose to like HGTV and Joanna Gaines since Joanna is a great interior designer and I can definitely share her posts since many people are obsessed with her and her show. HGTV is a design channel that must be followed since they offer multiple ways t

Week 6: Facebook Page Vocabulary

The difference between post reach and post engagement is that post reach is how well you're getting your product, business, or service out there. The advertisement or whatever marketing tool is being use is allowing your business name to spread. It means getting your name or product in people's conversations. By reaching people, you can create a bigger fan base for your business. Post engagement measures the interactions beyond views on a business's profile. It includes clicks, likes, shares, and comments. Knowing the difference is important because many can mistake having a high reach as having a good, popular profile but the engagements are much more important. The engagements are what will determine how popular a page/profile is.  Businesses can use these insights to better serve their customers by tracking the trends of engagements and reaches. A business can see what style of post is most interesting to viewers which can help in the future by posting similarly to ma

Week 5 Post 2

My main focus for my target market would be residential customers. Home owners of all age, married or single, who wish to renovate their home or rooms in their house. I also hope to reach new homeowners who want to take on a challenge of designing and updating their home to a space that fits who they are and want they desire. My target market would be also architectural firms and real estate agents. I could market with them and provide my work on their projects. Architects work closely with interior designers so my customers could also be firms looking for an interior designer to assist in design plans and to have subcontractors/contacts for the different materials that'll be needed.

Week 5 Post 1

Set One In this set, Subway aims to attract customers who are interested in healthy sandwiches. They target any age, gender, and ethnicity. Subway focuses on offering for anyone at anytime of the day with fair prices. Hungry Bear offers to all ages and ethnicity as well. It appears more of a sit-in restaurant for customers. They offer a lot more than Subway for customers in their sandwich selection and salads.  I think by visiting their websites and observing, Subway shows a wrap and how the business looks inside. It gives off a feeling of a quick come in, order, and go. Hungry Bear shows different subs as well as how to stay connected with them. They give off a more "home made" feeling where you would want to go to dine in. There is a crossover between the customers because the customers for both places enjoy sandwiches enough to where they would be fine going to either.

Week 4 Post 2

Two websites that I visit frequently are Canvas, for obvious reasons, and Adidas. Canvas I clearly use for school and visit the page every day. Adidas I visit frequently to check the latest sneaker drops. I have always loved Adidas so I love seeing their new products, their designs, and the stories behind their products or why the designer chose what he did.  Canvas is effective because it keeps all my classes and assignments organized. The dashboard easily informs me what is due on what day, which gives me an idea on how to plan out my week. I like the design of the webpage because all my classes are separated and it's easy to maneuver through the page. I come back to Canvas because I need to complete my classes. It's easily the most visited page for me. I can't think of anything that needs to be improved on the site. The design serves for its purpose.  Adidas is effective for me  because I always get the answers to my product research. As I mentioned, I am always i

Week 4 Post 1

The websites I chose are gatesnfences.com and jamison.com. The first potential problem I see for visitors on gatesnfences.com are that it is way too busy once you visit the page. There is wording everywhere that makes it difficult to decide where to start. The second problem is that it is very unorganized. They have links to railings, garden gates, and fences scattered along at the website. Lastly, I think the problem is it's just overall overwhelming. When clicking on one of the options on the left sidebar, you are directed to another page that explains everything about the products. Although it's very helpful, it is a lot for the eye to be introduced to. Most people once they see a page like that decide to leave the page.  The first problem I see on jamison.com is that upon arrival, it appears like am outdated website. It's not eye catching and uses many colors that makes it all over the place. The second problem is it's busy which makes it hard to decide where to

Week 3 Part 1

I have never had difficulty communicating with a business. Every time I have communicated to a business it has been through email, which I have always heard back from the business. They respond in a quick manner and try the best to solve any problem I am experiencing. I have friends who have had bad communication experiences with businesses, which usually results from them not answering their posts on their social medias or not responding to their emails.  I believe social media makes it easier to get noticed and to have problems resolved because businesses are paying more attention to their social media pages. Today almost everyone is using social media so it is more common to send DM's and comment on posts rather than taking the time to send an email. As I mentioned before, I have never communicated with a business before through social media. I have tagged my sister on different Adidas and clothes brands posts, which they will like my comment. With that being said, I think co

Week 2 Part 2

The three blogs I commented on were Jason Bush, Bassel Kanj, and Lynne Stewart.

Week 2 Part 1

In my opinion, if we look at the most popular social media platforms, like Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook, they are all geared towards personal use. Anyone can create accounts on those networks and post about their lives, follow their friends and family, and stay up to date for their wellbeing. I think Twitter and Snapchat are targeted more towards personal use because businesses don't advertise as much on those two social media feeds. Also because I have numerous friends that use Twitter and only follow their friends and profiles that interest them. They tweet about their lives and different instances that happen daily. I think Snapchat is directed more towards personal use because it is an easy way to stay connected with friends. Everyone adds each other to view their stories of their lives that they display. Although Instagram and Facebook are used for personal use, people also have the opportunity to follow their favorite stores/businesses, role models, and famous p

Group Responses

In my group, I commented on the blogs of Lisa Haas, Robert Mowry, and Brandon Garcia.  Their links are below:  https://csit155-sp19-lisah.blogspot.com/2019/01/first-entry.html https://csit155-sp19-robertm.blogspot.com/2019/01/week-1a-my-blog.html https://csit155-sp19-garciab.blogspot.com/2019/01/csit-155-week-one-blog.html

Reasons Behind the Theme - Week #1

When choosing my template I tried to find one that attracted my eye. Visuals is very important to me because if I see something that I like then I am more interested in it and more drawn to what it has to offer. The template I chose was based off of its color and the design that it offers. I really liked the font as well as the pattern. I believe that if I have a bright, colorful theme then viewers will be more fascinated to visit my blog. Personally, I enjoy visiting blogger's pages if they look trendy and bright. I feel more fascinated to see what they have to offer in their blogs and it shows that they put some work into their page.  A second reason I chose this template is because the palm leaves reminded me of where I live. I live in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Originally I am from Illinois but at age 17, I moved to San Diego with my family. Ever since I can remember, I dreamed of living somewhere close to a beach. My dream came true when my family and I moved. With this te
